This book has been a great help in my adventure with paint.  It contains hands-on experiments with dozens of techniques and mediums in new and unconventional ways including: * Capturing whites with crayon and wax resist * Glazing and floating colors * Portraying the patterns of nature with sedimentation and precipitation * Loosening up with gesso painting and printing with plastic * Constructing a new piece of art from old work * Experimenting with three-dimensional assemblage.

 

Creative Collage Techniques by Nita Leland, Virginia Lee Williams


This book is filled with a wide variety of techniques from the very simple to the very sophisticated it teaches you everything from how to get started to how to frame your finished piece. Itexplain how to make your own paper for collage and making collage "supports" or backgrounds using mediums, papers, and natural or found materials.

Color Harmony, A Guide to Creative Color Combinations  by Hideaki Chijiiwa

I love this series of books.  The pages and pages of color combinations are helpful when trying to focus the color effect I am trying to achieve. This is the oldest, being published in 1987.  

 

Color Harmony 2, A Guide to Creative Color Combinations by Bride M. Whelan

Published in 1997.  The color combinations are more up to date.  Photographs are included to show examples of how to use the color combinations.

 

Color Harmony Jewels, A Guide for Creating Great Color Combinations  by Martha Gill

This book contains specific examples of jewel tones.

 

Color Harmony Naturals, A Guide for Creating Great Color Combinations  by Martha Gill

This book contains specific examples of natural tones.

This book contains specific examples of pastel tones.

 

Arteffects  by Jean Drysdale Green

This book provides  wonderful samples (and more importantly directions) for creating effects and texture with five painting mediums.  I am using the ideas from this book for the backgrounds of my collages.

 

The Crafter's Complete Guide to Collage  by Amanda Pearce

Wonderful ideas and step by step instructions for 16 collage projects.  Great photographs for a variety of collage styles.
